Pantai Setrojenar on Kebumen’s south coast

Pantai Setrojenar is a beach in Desa Setrojenar, Kecamatan Buluspesantren, in Kebumen Regency, Central Java. It faces the Indian Ocean directly, so the shoreline is open to the sea. Visitors come for the view over the water, a walk along the sand and the sunset.

The beach is also known as Pantai Bocor. Despite that name, it lies in Desa Setrojenar rather than Desa Bocor, so use Setrojenar when you plan a route or search a map.

Where the beach sits

Setrojenar is the seat of government for Kecamatan Buluspesantren, a district made up of 21 villages. The beach is roughly 13 to 17 kilometres from central Kebumen, and the exact distance depends on the road you take and where you start.

The coast here is exposed to the Indian Ocean rather than sheltered by a bay. The open water gives the beach its wide view.

What to expect on the sand

Many visitors come to watch the sunset over the ocean. The beach has a parking area and food stalls selling snacks and drinks, so a stop of a few hours is easy to plan without bringing much along.

Fishing is part of the everyday scene here. Boats and fishing activity can be seen along the shore, so give way to boats being launched or hauled in, and keep clear of fishing gear when you walk along the sand.

Planning a visit

The beach is not always open to visitors. The coastal area is sometimes used by the Indonesian military for training, and access has been closed at those times. Check the current situation before setting out on a special trip.

Because facilities are simple, bring water and whatever else you need for a longer stay. Check the conditions on the day before you enter the water.

For wider context, see the Central Java destination guide and the Kebumen Regency beach guide. Other coastal stops in the province are Pantai Menganti, Pantai Logending and Pantai Petanahan.
